Zetasizer Nano ZSP

The Zetasizer Nano ZSP is the premium model of the Zetasizer range.

It is  for the measurement of size and electrophoretic mobility of proteins, zeta potential of nanoparticles and surfaces, and  the microrheology of protein and polymer solutions.

ZetaNanoZSPThe exceptional performance also enables the measurement of the molecular weight (with SLS) and second virial coefficient, A2, of macromolecules and kD, the DLS interaction parameter. The system can also be used in a flow configuration to operate as a size detector for Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) or Field Flow Fractionation (FFF).

The ZSP has significant performance enhancements over the standard Nano ZS, with a more powerful laser, upgraded optics and special software feature keys included to facilitate Protein Calculations, SOP operations and microRheology experiments.

These enhancements are easiest to “see” in the Zetapotential measurement of proteins, where there is 10 times the signal. This means the specifications for Zp sensitivity improves from a standard 10mgm/ml with BSA for a Zetasizer Nano Z or ZS to an amazing 1 mgm/ml of Lysozyme with the ZSP. The Diffusion Barrier measurement was designed in Malvern for proteins to control two adverse effects during zeta experiments.

diffussion barrier pruposeThe first is where the proteins aggregate, burn or denature on the electrode in physiological environments and the second is where the heating effect of the applied voltage decreases viscosity and that affects Zp calculations.

By only loading the sample in the bottom of the cell and adding electrolyte above the sample to reach the electrodes much is done to control these effects and give you reproducible and “correct” Zp and sizes of proteins in Zeta experiments. Download a poster on this.
